What Don't Pick Up Stray Aliens! Is

Don't Pick Up Stray Aliens! is an English-language romance visual novel about an exhausted office worker who meets a tall blond stranger bowing to a vending machine. He says he is an alien who crashed on Earth months earlier and survived by taking forms such as a streetlight, cat, and mailbox. After deciding that a human body is easier to handle, he asks the protagonist to teach him how to be human.

The current release is a demo in active development, not the promised complete route. The creators describe future chapter updates and say the alien boy’s full route is a later target. This page therefore focuses on interface habits, spoiler-light choice reading, and version boundaries. It does not claim that the demo contains every planned love interest, customization option, translation, or ending.

YoruBox and fromis9 publish the game as a Ren'Py visual novel for HTML5, Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. The page lists keyboard and mouse input, an average session of about an hour, and English as the current language. The browser frame visibly loads Ren'Py scripts before the story menu becomes available, so initial loading can be longer than a simple HTML game.

Don't Pick Up Stray Aliens! Demo Guide

  1. Start the official embedded build and let the Ren’Py loading bar complete. Avoid repeatedly refreshing during script loading, because that restarts the browser initialization rather than advancing it.
  2. Use a mouse click or the keyboard to advance only after you have read the current line. Visual novels often attach meaning to a small wording change, character expression, or thought line that is easy to skip.
  3. When the story asks for a name or presents a choice, decide whether you are role-playing the protagonist or testing a branch. Save beforehand when the interface makes a save slot available.
  4. Keep separate saves at meaningful choice points instead of overwriting one file. That makes it possible to compare the demo’s available outcomes without replaying every early scene.
  5. Treat the final demo message as a version boundary. The creators are still developing later chapters, so a teaser or unresolved relationship is not proof that content failed to load.

Controls

  • Advance dialogue: Use the mouse or keyboard as prompted by the Ren’Py interface. The first-party page confirms both input categories.
  • Choose an option: Select the visible choice with the pointer or keyboard focus. Read the full option before confirming.
  • Save and load: Use the in-game Ren’Py menu when available. Browser storage can be cleared by privacy settings, so a local web save is not a cloud backup.
  • History and settings: Use the visible Ren’Py menu for dialogue history, text speed, audio, and other exposed settings; availability should be judged from the current build.

Story and Demo Systems

Human lessons

The central premise is teaching a stranded shapeshifter how to live as a human. The page confirms the setup but does not publish a scene-by-scene spoiler route.

Naming and role-play

Comments on the first-party page show players naming the alien, but community reactions do not establish every naming rule or downstream consequence.

Choices and outcomes

Players discuss warmer and less warm outcomes. This supports the existence of variation, not a complete formula for every ending or a guaranteed choice map.

Chapter boundary

The creators say more chapters are planned and the full alien route is unfinished. Current story labels should be read as demo structure rather than a finished campaign.

Platform versions

HTML5 and downloadable desktop and Android editions are listed. This page covers the web demo and does not promise identical saves or performance across platforms.

Spoiler-Light Reading Tips

  • Save before a choice whose tone could change the relationship, especially if you want to compare supportive and cautious responses.
  • Do not use a future-update FAQ answer as evidence that the promised content is already inside the current browser build.
  • Read the protagonist’s internal narration as carefully as spoken dialogue; it supplies context for why a friendly option may still carry hesitation.
  • Use dialogue history after an accidental fast click instead of guessing what changed.
  • If the web build appears frozen during startup, check whether the script-loading bar is still moving before refreshing.

Browser Notes

The game is embedded through the local game-assets mirror recorded in this repository. The original itch iframe URL remains documented in mirror-meta.json for provenance.

Browser saves depend on local site storage and may disappear when site data is cleared or restrictive privacy modes are used. The first-party page does not promise cloud synchronization.

The release lists keyboard and mouse, not verified touch input for the HTML5 build. Android is offered separately, so the browser iframe should not be described as the Android edition.
